Does this make sense to anyone?

I have had a really busy month. I have several acres enrolled in a conservation reserve program called CRP. This federal program was designed to remove steep and highly erodible ground from farm production. This program was designed to help water quality and wildlife habitat. One of my CRP contracts has expired after ten years and to re-enroll I had to agree to do several things. I had to remove the trees, farm the ground for a year, and replant the land with native grass. I am now in the process of cutting down at least 3000 trees on a very steep hillside. The trees are about twenty feet tall and six inches in diameter. After I cut them down I will have them stacked and then burn them so I can once again plant this land to crop for one year before I can get back into the program. Last Monday I got the approval to start on this process of cutting down the trees for acceptance of my bid.
One has to question the wisdom of a conservation program that requires removal of the best habitat for conservation and wildlife. It will take ten years to re-grow the trees for this excellent habitat. Does this make sense to anyone else? I will keep you posted.

It is pretty standard for government programs to be at odds with each other and often make no sense :) . You have to wonder who is in charge in these places.

I can not figure out the way the system works. Why do we have to destroy to recreate? Why do the biologist think it is ok to to kill something so that something else can live??? Who is the person making these decisions?
