Farming during the winter is full of paperwork

The last two weeks have been busy around the farm. I have worked on marketing grain for the farm. The price is rising and I have made a few forward contracts for harvest delivery of wheat to the local elevator. I have also sold the remaining grain from last year’s harvest. You never know if you make the right marketing decision until the wheat is harvested and sold. I try to keep up on world issues and try to figure out how these events will affect the price of grain.

This last week I attended class to earn credits for my pesticide license. Every year you need credits to keep current with the pesticide laws for the state. The class last week lasted all day and I now have enough credits for the year. This is good as it keeps farmers up to date on new chemicals and regulations dealing with application law.

In the shop we are trying to get the combine ready for next harvest. The header needed a new bottom and fingers to repair damage from hitting a rock last harvest. I really want to finish the combine and get onto the other repairs needed.
