Goose Hunting 2012

We have been trying to figure out where on the farm the Geese want to stop when they leave the river below us. We have hunted a couple spots on the farm, one was wheat stubble the other barley stubble. When it comes to geese you need to have out a big spread and layout blinds when your hunting this area it seems. This year is the first year we have hunted geese in fields, we normally hunt the river. We tried hunting in the middle of the farm to no prevail. I even had Gary’s brother Guy at Thanksgiving come over and hunt with us and show us where he use to hunt the birds since he use to get birds here 15 years ago. I have since tried a couple of these spots and have found the birds don’t want to stray very far from the canyon they fly up to their feeding areas. The one spot we  found lately is on the far northeast corner of the farm closest to the canyon. I headed out at 6am and had my 80 decoys out and layout blind in place by 7 am. Seems like the birds really dont fly real good til around 8am but I am a frim believer in one of these days they will come early and I’ll be there. Well today was the day. About 15 minutes after getting setup the first flock came up the canyon. I began  flagging to get the attention of the birds along with a  some calling. This flock of about 30 came straight in and attempted to land. I ended up getting 2 out of this group. I seen 9 flocks in the next 2 hours with another group of 8 doing the same as the first by trying to land in my decoys. I ended up getting 2 out of this group and my limit for the first time on the farm. I hope we can get this figured out this year so we can offer this great hunting opportunity to all of you next year. Its amazing the different animals  you can hunt on this great farm…..Happy Holidays to everyone….
