The Life of a Guide…..

All I ever hear is man you have a dream job and I wish I was a guide too. I dont think people understand the hours a guide puts in scouting or pre fishing so they know where to go when they take clients out. Since the start of Turkey season this year It seems I have have been up at  3:30 AM every morning and bed late since it doesn’t get dark till after 8PM, not that I’m complaining I love Turkey hunting.  I don’t think a lot of people understand all the work that goes into preparing for a trip.  The guide gets the poles and baits ready, makes sure the reels have new line, they clean and get the boat ready, they prepare the trailer, they get the calls and decoys ready, all the little things that need to be done for the trip. When I first started guiding I was really surprised by the amount of time and preparation I put in to get ready for a trip. Since becoming a guide full time I cant imagine doing anything else. I love the outdoors and hunting and fishing and the things I’ve seen while out in the field.  The next time you pay to go on a guided trip and wonder why they charge what they do, remember there’s a lot of time and work that you don’t see that has gone into making your trip a successful one. Remember that if you enjoyed your trip with the guide make sure you tip him or her its no different than tipping your waiter for good service. Guiding is hard work and very time consuming dont let anyone tell you any diffrent, trust me I know LOL….Its diffrent than just going out hunting and fishing for fun, it actually is a hard job…
